Oxford Cohousing from Oxfordshire Community Land Trust
Project Summary
Oxfordshire Community Land Trust Limited (OCLT) is seeking to acquire and manage land for community use in Oxfordshire. The Trust’s vision is to create communities with locally owned, affordable (social rent) eco-housing, that would be affordable in perpetuity.
Oxford is the second least affordable city in Britain pricing out local people, key workers and those who sustain the city. OCLT plans to deliver up to 15 one and two-bedroom homes by demolishing three council-owned garage block sites across Blackbird Leys.
Outcomes
- Increase in much needed affordable housing
- Reduction in carbon emissions in comparison to standard new builds
- Increase in ‘livable neighbourhoods’ – people able to afford to live where they work, reducing travelling emissions, and improving wellbeing

Planning permission is required – a preplanning application planning statement has been prepared. Income generation will be through the collection of social rents. Oxford City Council is the landowner and terms have been agreed for a 250-year lease.
