Alongside energy innovation, Oxfordshire has emerged as a centre for future mobility.

Building on the existing strengths of Oxfordshire as a key part of motorsport valley, the county is now a centre for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) development. Notable assets in Oxfordshire include RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) at Culham Science Centre which hosts a centre of excellence in robotics and autonomous systems and one of the four national CAV testbeds.

This expertise is complemented by local government leadership, with Oxfordshire County Council being the first local authority to include CAVs in its local transport strategy.

Oxfordshire is also home to one of the UK’s largest fleets of electric buses outside London. Oxfordshire County Council was awarded £32.8m through the Government’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme, and collaborated with the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach to deliver the new fleet of battery buses.
