Oxfordshire is home to the UK’s largest network of Community Action Groups which strive to make the county a safer, fairer and more sustainable place to live, work and visit. The network runs over 4,000 events per year, supported by over 200,000 volunteer hours.

The Low Carbon Hub, a social enterprise, is pioneering a decentralised, renewables-based energy system in Oxfordshire. For example, Ray Valley Solar project, is the largest community-owned solar park in the UK, generating enough green electricity to power over 6000 homes every year.

Projects like these, including trials under Project LEO, provided valuable insights into how energy provision in Oxfordshire could operate in a decentralised, decarbonised manner which benefits the local community.

Additionally, projects such as the Evenlode Catchment Partnership and North East Cotswold Farmer Cluster exemplify decentralised approaches to achieving nature recovery goals in Oxfordshire.
